You’re in Maleny, Queensland. I’m not (but I hear it’s a spectacular place!). How’s this going to work?
With email and Skype, I can work with English-speaking clients anywhere in the world. It’s just a matter of co-ordinating expectations and timezones. Send me an email, and we can get started.
I want an editor who respects my work.
We’ll begin our working relationship by defining your expectations. If you simply want me to correct any errors in spelling or grammar, that’s fine. If you want me to actively look for opportunities to improve your work, I’ll do so. Either way, if I spot any issues which in my mind affect the integrity of your writing, I’ll let you know. Of course, you’re free to either accept or reject my advice. Once you have decided what you want, I’ll respect your wishes.
How do I know that you’re any good?
Check out my testimonials, and some samples of my work. Then decide for yourself. If at any stage you’re not happy with the work I’m providing, please let me know. The sooner it’s addressed, the sooner it can be fixed.
I see you also write fiction. How nice. But I want someone who understands business.
I’ve been operating my own freelance writing business for the last six years. I understand how important it is to build a strong client base, provide quality work at fair price, and maintain profitability. In addition, I know how to work with government departments. Like it or not, working with government is essential in many industries. I can help you communicate with government departments in language which they understand.
There are many skills I have developed as a fiction writer which I use, when appropriate, in my business writing. The ability to draw believable and intriguing characters. To create compelling narratives. To describe people and services and things vividly and succinctly. To use the rhythms and sounds of the English to draw your readers in, and keep them glued to the page. The businesses which succeed are those which have built enduring relationships within their communities, and great communication is essential if you wish to build enduring relationships.
Peter Carey and Bryce Courtney both enjoyed successful careers in the advertising industry, where their creativity and flair with words were highly valued. Obviously, I’m neither Peter Carey nor Bryce Courtney. But if you ask me to work with you, I’ll bring all my creativity and talent to the task!
Will you ghostwrite my book for me?
Probably not. While I have undertaken some ghostwriting projects for selected clients, I also need time to write my own books! However, there is a ghostwriter who I am happy to recommend. I have worked with Michael Collins on a number of projects. He’ll turn your story into a book—one which you can publish yourself, or submit to a publisher if you prefer. Check out his website for more information!
Enough small talk. What’s this all going to cost me?
About what you would pay for a quality plumber or electrician. Here’s the information you need on pricing.
